ABOUT

WHO TF IS K+LAB?

If heavy bass music and hip-hop had a long-running underground architect, it would look a lot like K+Lab.

Born in New Zealand and now based in Melbourne, K+Lab has spent more than a decade carving his own lane between electronic hip-hop, bass music and live performance.

His sound is built on thick drums, chest-rattling low end and real musicality, grounded in hip-hop but engineered for modern festival systems.

His live show goes far beyond a standard DJ set. Keytar in hand, he blends live instrumentation with heavyweight bass while steering a fully immersive audiovisual experience built from the ground up. Hand-drawn characters, 3D worlds and custom animation extend his sound into a complete visual universe that feels intentional rather than decorative.

Over the years his music has landed on LSDream’s Trippy Bee, CloZee’s Odyzey, Gramatik’s Lowtemp, Westwood and Philos Records, embedding him firmly within the global bass circuit as a respected mainstay rather than a passing wave.

As the founder of Junkfood Records, K+Lab has shifted into a broader role as curator and label head, building infrastructure for forward-thinking bass artists and shaping a community that feels authentic and long term. It’s an extension of the same philosophy that defines his music: independent, detail-driven and built to last.

From Red Rocks to Shambhala, Bass Coast to Electric Forest, he has bridged scenes across New Zealand, Australia, the US and Canada while staying completely true to his own sound.

At this point, it’s less about breaking through and more about continuing to evolve, refine and expand a world that’s already well established.
